By 10:45 AM, the issue had received bids equivalent to 101% of the shares on offer. Qualified institutional buyers (QIBs) led the early demand, with their reserved portion subscribed 3.25 times.

The IPO is entirely a fresh issue of shares, with no offer-for-sale (OFS) component. Jio Platforms plans to use the majority of the proceeds to reduce its existing debt. The offer is scheduled to remain open for applications until October 23.

Institutional Investors Lead Early Demand

The QIB portion was fully subscribed within the first 30 minutes of the issue opening. By 10:45 AM, bids in this category had reached 3.25 times the shares reserved for institutional investors.

Other investor categories recorded lower participation during the same period. The non-institutional investor portion was subscribed 27%, while retail investors subscribed to 24% of their allocated shares.

The employee quota received bids for 59% of its allocation, while the portion reserved for existing Reliance Industries shareholders reached 45%.

These figures reflect demand as of 10:45 AM on the opening day and may change as bidding continues.

₹30,213 Crore IPO to Fund Debt Reduction

Jio Platforms is raising ₹30,213 crore through a fresh issue of equity shares. Since the offering has no OFS component, the proceeds will go to the company rather than to existing shareholders selling their holdings.

The company intends to use most of the funds to reduce its outstanding debt. The proposed use of proceeds is a key factor for investors evaluating the offering.

The IPO's size and early institutional participation have drawn attention to the company's public market debut. Further demand across investor categories will help provide a clearer picture of investor interest before the issue closes.

Retail Investors Can Apply Until October 23

The Jio Platforms IPO is scheduled to remain open until October 23, giving retail investors additional time to submit applications.

Investors considering an application should review the offer documents, issue price, investment objectives and associated risks before making a decision.

Retail IPO allotments are governed by the applicable allocation rules and the level of valid applications received. Eligible family members may apply independently using their own PAN and demat accounts, subject to the issue's rules. However, applications must be genuine and comply with the applicable requirements. Multiple applications under the same PAN may be treated as duplicate applications and rejected.

Applying through different eligible individuals does not guarantee allotment. Where the retail category is oversubscribed, allotment is generally determined according to the applicable basis of allotment, rather than simply the number of people in an applicant's social circle.

Grey Market Premium Near 24%

The grey market premium (GMP) for Jio Platforms stood at ₹268 at the time of the report. Against the IPO's price band of ₹1,065 to ₹1,119 per share, this indicated a premium of nearly 24% over the upper end of the range.

The GMP is an unofficial market indicator and does not guarantee the listing price. Actual listing performance may differ depending on market conditions, investor demand and other factors.

Jio Platforms Sets a New Pace Among Large IPOs

Jio Platforms reached full subscription faster than other major public issues cited in the report.

Bajaj Housing Finance's ₹6,560 crore IPO was fully subscribed by 2 PM on its first day of bidding. The LG Electronics India IPO reached full subscription by the end of its opening day.

Jio Platforms crossed the threshold in approximately 100 minutes, with institutional investors accounting for the strongest early demand.

As bidding continues until October 23, investors will be watching participation across categories, the final subscription figures and the company's subsequent listing performance. The early response marks a significant opening for the country's largest-ever IPO, although the final outcome will depend on market participation and listing conditions.
