A passenger felt cheated by IndiGo after the carrier managed to lose his luggage containing expensive items and important documents. Adding insult to the injury was the compensation amount offered by the carrier to the individual.
The incident occured with Monik Sharma when he flew from Kolkata to Guwahati almost a month earlier, however, it became a topic of discussion on the internet after his friend shared the details on social media on Saturday.
Ravi Handa, the host of Desi FIRE Podcast, in a post on social media platform X, formerly known as Twitter, shared that his friend lost his bag containing items worth Rs 45,000 as the luggage never arrived at Guwahati airport. Handa has more than 42,000 followers on X and the post quickly went viral.
Handa added that the airline offered a compensation of Rs 2,450 to his friend for all the trouble he went through and called out the carrier for offering a trivial gesture.
In a later post, Handa said that the social media team of the carrier has reached out to him and promised to look into the matter. However, Netizens pointed out that the fault lies with the individual for placing valuable stuff in his check-in bag.
One of the users commented, "Credit cards have baggage loss insurance. PS: as a thumb rule, don’t put anything valuable in checkin bag. Anyone can open your bag anytime during transit and no-one is liable for anything missing in your bag."
Another user said that the incident must have occurred during the global IT outage caused by a faulty update from CrowdStrike in July, and this was confirmed by Handa.
