A regular IndiGo flight from Delhi-Varanasi became a nightmare for passengers after the aircraft’s air conditioning system malfunctioned. This resulted in the passengers complaining of suffocation and caused a lot of chaos in the cabin.

In response to the issue, the airline issued a statement on Saturday officially apologised to the customers for the inconvenience they suffered, reported Business Today. “We extend our apologies for the inconvenience experienced on flight 6E 2235 operating from Delhi to Varanasi on September 5, 2024,” IndiGo said.

The matter came to light after a video surfaced on Thursday highlighting the chaos inside the flight as flyers suffered extreme discomfort. Many passengers were seen using magazines to cool themselves. The malfunction in the system resulted in several passengers reportedly fainting due to intense head and suffocation.

However, IndiGo said that the AC however was functioning properly. The carrier said that a change in temperature resulted in the cabin heating up and caused panic amongst the passengers.

“The discomfort was attributed to fluctuations in cabin temperature, which were adjusted in response to passenger requests. Our cabin crew promptly extended assistance to the affected passenger to address the situation,” the carrier said.

Notably, a similar incident occurred earlier in June when an IndiGo flight from Delhi to Bagdogra suffered an AC malfunction causing it to stop working for an hour. As a result, the older passengers on the flight experienced breathing difficulties, while many passengers expressed their anger and said that they felt like they were being ‘hijacked’.

This flight was also delayed by almost an hour. In response, the carrier explained that the delay was owing to ‘high ground temperatures’.
