Communications, Electronics and Information Technology Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw on Wednesday said around 88-90 lakh jobs have already been created in the digital economy space. "If we look at three big pillars of the digital economy - electronics manufacturing, IT and IT services and start-ups, around 88-90 lakh jobs have already been created," the minister said.
The minister added that the government has the target to cross 1 crore jobs in the next two years, according to news agency ANI.
Vaishnaw earlier revealed that around 16 lakh jobs are being created in the country every month according to the Employees Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO) data, reported news agency PTI.

The EPFO data includes private as well as government jobs.
Earlier, this month Ashwini Vaishnaw also reacted to the mass sacking of Twitter employees in the country. Condemning the decision, the minister told the publication Business Standard that the sacked employees should have been given enough time to transition to a new endeavor.
The IT ministry has identified digital payments, Make In India, Start-Up India, Skill India among the key drivers of the digital economy.
The minister’s statement came after Twitter, which has been taken over by Elon Musk, decided to sack half of its 7,500 employees around the world.
Vaishnaw had said the target has been set to pass the legislation on the Digital Personal Data Protection Bill and Indian Telecommunication Bill by July-August, 2023, reported The Indian Express.
The minister claimed that the Digital Personal Data Protection Bill and Indian Telecommunication Bill proposed by the Narendra Modi government will help to curb cyber fraud by around 80 per cent. He noted that the entire telecom industry and the digital industry were guided by the Indian Telegraph Act, 1985, which is a 137-year-old law.
