Even though the corporate sector in India is taking steps to address mental health issues at workplaces, a majority of employees believe companies could do more to improve their overall well-being, according to a report by HR services and workforce solutions provider Genius Consultants released on Saturday.


Over 79 per cent of those who participated in the survey opined that their organisations could do more to address mental health issues and well-being.


"We must recognise that employee well-being is not just a trend, but a crucial aspect of organisational success. The data reveals that a significant number of employees are grappling with anxiety and feeling overwhelmed in their work environments. Companies need to take proactive steps to foster a supportive atmosphere that prioritises mental health and work-life balance," Genius Consultants Chairman and Managing Director R P Yadav said.


The report is derived from a survey conducted between August 5 and September 2, 2024, involving 1,783 employees across various sectors. The report further indicated that more than 45 per cent of employees experience feelings of anxiety and unease every Sunday evening as they get ready to return to work on Monday. In addition, 13 per cent of respondents reported having mixed emotions during this time, reflecting a complex relationship with the transition from weekend relaxation to the workweek ahead.


Additionally, 78 per cent of respondents described their workplace as harsh, marked by peer pressure and behavioural expectations from both management and colleagues. Only 17 per cent disagreed with this assessment, underscoring the need for a more supportive culture within organisations, according to the report.


Additionally, 66 per cent of employees feel overwhelmed by their current work structures, believing that their work-life balance is significantly disrupted. This concerning figure indicates that a considerable portion of the workforce is struggling to effectively manage their professional and personal lives.
