New Delhi: The auspicious festival of wealth, Dhanteras also known as Dhanatrayodashi or Dhanvantari Trayodashi, is being observed today in the country. The festival marks the beginning of Diwali. The festival is observed on the thirteenth lunar day of Krishna Paksha. The word Dhanteras is made of two words Dhan meaning wealth and Teras meaning thirteenth day. It is customary to buy gold, silver, automobile, utensils, properties, appliances and other precious goods on this day. It is said whatever one buys on this day reaps fruits for the person on future.


Here are the auspicious timings to do shopping for the festival:

Morning: 7:07am to 9:15 am

Afternoon: 1:00 pm till 2:30 pm

Night: 05:35 to 7:30 pm

Gold and silver rates:

In Mumbai, silver spot is costing Rs 38,390 per kg, while standard gold price is Rs 31740 per 10 grams. While in Kolkata, silver spot per kg is priced at 38,650, while standard gold cost in Rs. 32,360 per 10 grams, as per PTI.
