Sensex and Nifty, the to key equity benchmarks, zoomed sharply after the Reserve Bank of India's (RBI’s) 50 basis point rate hike to 5.9 per cent cheered domestic investors on Friday.


At 2.30 pm, the Sensex rose 1,154 points to 57,564, while the broader NSE Nifty was trading at 17,140, up 322 points.


On the 30-share Sensex platform, Airtel was the top gainer, up 4.47 per cent. IndusInd bank, Titan, Bajaj Finserv, Bajaj Finance, Titan, HDFC Bank, and others were also in the green. On the flip side, only two, Asian Paint and HUL, were trading in the negative zone.


The respite was seen in broader markets, too, as Nifty SmallCap 100 and Nifty MidCap 100 indices rose 0.9 per cent each. Volatility gauge, India VIX, meanwhile, slipped over 5 per cent.


 Sectorwise, Nifty PSU Bank and Nifty Bank gained the most, over 2 per cent. Besides, Nifty Realty, and Nifty Auto indices climbed over 1 per cent each.
