A recent official notification issued by the Assam government, the Assamese language was made compulsory for all official work across the state, barring the three districts of Barak Valley and five districts in the Bodoland Territorial Region (BTR). The notification also mentioned that the issuance of all government notifications, office memoranda, acts, rules, regulations, scheme guidelines, and transfer and posting orders shall be in both English and Assamese.
