Lotus is making its India debut in a few days time and this British sports car maker under new ownership now makes a larger line-up of electric SUVs and sedans. Lotus was founded by Colin Chapman and their cars were always about lightness plus performance. Cars like the Elan and Exige were lightweight sports cars with a focus on a high power to weight ratio. Now under Geely ownership, Lotus has become a lifestyle electric carmaker with its first SUV called the Eletre while it is also planning more electric cars like a sedan called Emeya.

Lotus also has a petrol powered Emira sportscar which will be another choice for the enthusiasts here. For the India line-up we expect the Emira and the Eletre at the start to come via the CBU route. The focus would be on the Eletre luxury SUV which is purely electric and comes with either a 600 bhp or a 900 bhp configuration. Globally, the Eletre is also their new best selling SUV for other markets. In India, Lotus cars are coming via Exclusive Motors which would be their sole dealer and it also is the sole dealer for Bentley in India.

We expect the first outlet soon in Delhi and it will compete with high performance brands while offering both an EV plus a sports car. The Eletre is an aerodynamic SUV and the shape also helps in the range which is expected to be a healthy 600 km per charge. The Emira comes with either a 2.0l four cylinder engine plus there is also a V6 petrol engine. The Emira is also one of the last sports cars to offer a manual gearbox although it is not sure that it would be offered in India. We will know the exact details and specifications in a few days time at its India launch.
