New Delhi: Volkswagen has launched its Virtus sedan in India with the starting price being Rs.11.2 lakh. The GT Plus version meanwhile retails at Rs.17.91 lakh. The Virtus is a midsize sedan based on the MQB-AO-IN platform which is also the base for the Volkswagen Taigun compact SUV. The Virtus claims to be the longest sedan in its class with a length of 4561mm along with a wheelbase of 2651mm. The boot space is also a huge 521 litres. 


Variants are broadly divided into Dynamic Line and Performance Line. The Performance Line contains the sportier GT line trim which only comes with the 1.5 litre TSI engine and that comes with the 7-speed DSG automatic with paddle shifters. The Dynamic line gets the 1.0 TSI petrol engine with either a 6-speed manual or a 6-speed automatic.

There are two engines that you can get with the Virtus with the 1.0 litre forming the entry level part of the Virtus range while top-end GT line will get the 1.5 as mentioned earlier. The 1.0l makes 110bhp/ 178Nm while the 1.5l makes 150bhp/250Nm. In terms of features the Virtus gets a 10-inch touchscreen infotainment system with wireless smartphone connectivity, wireless charging, connected car technology, cruise control, ventilated and cooled seats, a rear-view camera, cooled glovebox and more. Safety wise the Virtus has 6 airbags, ESC, 3 headrests at the rear etc. 


The GT variant with the 1.5 TSI gets a sportier look which is identified by the coloured accents in the interior and the exterior along with dark wheels. The Virtus will compete with the likes of the Skoda Slavia, Honda City, Hyundai Verna and the Maruti Ciaz for the 1.0l variants. The colour options of the Virtus are Wild Cherry Red, Candy White, Carbon Steel Grey, Curcuma Yellow, Rising Blue Metallic and Reflex Silver.
