Volkswagen in India started its innings with the Polo and then later the Vento but it is now getting into SUVs in a big way with its product strategy. However, hold on, the Polo and Vento are not going away and we will see new products like a new sedan and other stuff in the future.

But over the next two years, the German car-maker said it will launch four new SUVs and it has already launched two including the T-Roc and the Tiguan All-Space in India. These two were CBU imports and Volkswagen will re-introduce them again in the market soon.

But this article is about the other two SUVs that are heading our way. It is the new Tiguan and the Taigun.

We have been waiting to see the Taigun compact SUV for a long time and the good news is that you can finally buy it this festive season. The Taigun is the made for India SUV that would compete with the Creta and the Seltos.

The SUV has been developed for our markets with an eye on features plus space. This is easily the most important Volkswagen yet. The Taigun will also be a proper Volkswagen in the sense that it will get a GT variant. We expect the Taigun to come with 1.0 TSI and the 1.5 TSI engines with the GT variant probably being for the 1.5 TSI.

We expect the top-end variant 1.5 TSI to get a dual-clutch automatic as well along with a manual. We will know more and will tell you more about the Taigun in a few days' time. Stay tuned.

Coming slightly earlier from the Taigun would be the new Tiguan around the time of August this year. Not to be confused with the Tiguan AllSpace, the new Tiguan is a 5-seater SUV and unlike the AllSpace the Tiguan would be assembled in India which would give it a more aggressive price-tag.

In terms of product positioning the new Tiguan would be below the AllSpace but above the T-Roc and Taigun. India will get the new facelifted Tiguan and with the updated design new headlamps and tail-lamps plus new added features for the interior.

The new Tiguan will share the 2.0 TSI petrol from the AllSpace with a DSG as standard. We expect this new SUV to rival the Citroen C5 Aircross and the Hyundai Tucson plus the Jeep Compass.
