Komaki, a homegrown electric vehicle (EV) firm, has launched its latest electric two-wheeler in India. Dubbed Venice Eco, the electric scooter boasts of fire-resistant battery technology — something its rival electric scooters are devoid of as of yet. This comes at a time when there have been several reports of electric scooters' battery packs catching fire while charging, often resulting in several deaths and a general apprehension from customers when it comes to choosing EVs over traditional combustion-engine vehicles. If the Venice Eco's fireproof battery claims indeed hold true in the coming months, it might lead to better adoption of e-scooters in the country.
Venice Eco price in India
Priced at Rs 79,000 (ex-showroom), the Venice Eco is touted as Komaki's first economic model in its high-speed lineup. In comparison, the Ola S1 electric scooter is priced at Rs 99,999, while the electric variant of Bajaj Chetak is priced at Rs 1.51 lakhs. The Venice Eco will be available in showrooms across India, as per a press release from Komaki.
Venice Eco comes in six colourways — Garnet Red, Sacramento Green, Jet Black, Metallic Blue, Bright Orange, and Silver Chrome.
Venice Eco features
First, let's take a closer look at Venice Eco's battery tech. While most electric scooters come with Lithium Ion battery packs, the Venice Eco boasts of a fire-resistant Lithium Ferro Phosphate (LiPO4) battery. These cells contain iron and hence, don't catch on fire in extreme scenarios. The battery pack also has less number of cells. Komaki claims that the number of cells has actually been reduced by one-third. Hence, the heat generated within the battery pack is reduced greatly as well. Combine that with Komaki's real-time battery analyser and you have a relatively blaze-proof electric scooter. Of course, we'll get a better idea of the fire-resistant technology's effectiveness as sales pick up in the coming weeks.
The Venice Eco supports four gears, or modes: Eco, Comfort, Sport, and Turbo, as per the official website. It offers a mileage of 80-100 kilometres per charge. The battery pack takes three to four hours to charge fully. Each charge consumes 1.8 to 2 power units.
Lastly, the Venice Eco comes with a TFT display that offers the standard navigation and features menu.
