Toyota is finally getting all new products to India with some help from Maruti of course. Both carmakers are busy working on getting their Creta rival ready for launch by next year. The Maruti version will come earlier while the Toyota SUV will come later. This is an all-new SUV that is being targeted at the 4m plus segment and will compete with rivals like Hyundai Creta, Volkswagen Taigun, Skoda Kushaq and MG Astor. That said, size-wise the Maruti/Toyota SUV would be bigger than many of these other current SUVs but match the Creta.

The new SUV will replace the S-Cross as the flagship Maruti product and for Toyota provide an SUV below the Fortuner to buyers. Both SUVs would be completely different looking in terms of exteriors with the Toyota getting a more aggressive design. Styling-wise the SUVs would be aggressive but also sport their own identities. Expect 16-17inch alloys, LED headlamps with DRLs while again there would be difference in terms of DRL signatures. The interior though would be similar with a massive touchscreen at the centre and a digital instrument cluster along with possibly touch AC controls/wireless charging and a panoramic sunroof.

Both SUVs will have the latest infotainment system seen on the new Baleno with a multi-tile set-up plus connected car technology and a 360-degree camera. The engine choice would be interesting as the base variants will have a 1.5l petrol engine with the new gearbox- which will debut on the new Brezza- the other important addition is the rumoured hybrid version. Both SUVs will have a hybrid version for better fuel economy. There would be no EV version though as of now. The launch is expected to be next year as before that the new Urban Cruiser/Brezza will come.
