Toyota is readying the Hilux pick-up truck for India and it will be launched in a few days time. The Hilux would be launched with aggressive pricing in mind with top-end versions being priced around Rs 35 lakh. Keep in mind the same Fortuner is now priced above Rs 40 lakh. The Hilux, unlike the Fortuner, would only be available with a 2.8l diesel engine with fewer variants but 4x4 would be expected to be standard.
The Hilux is a more off-road oriented vehicle over the Fortuner hence 4x4 is standard while no petrol engine is being offered. The Hilux would be sold in India with the double cab configuration being a 5-seater. The second row will have good space while it is expected to have a payload capacity of 1 tonne too. It will have decent features like a touchscreen, JBL premium audio system, cruise control, powered drivers seat, etc. The Hilux would have off-road-oriented tyres, 18inch alloys, 7 airbags, leather seats, and dual-zone climate control. Hence, like the Fortuner, this would be a premium product with nearly all features.
The 2.8l diesel would get a 6-speed automatic and a manual gearbox also. The Hilux would be a more lifestyle pick-up and would be the only premium pick-up on sale with the V-Cross Isuzu being much cheaper. The Hilux would be a cheaper alternative to the Fortuner and perfect for off-road lovers. The Hilux for reference is based on the same platform as the Fortuner and Innova hence the spare parts plus the service would be the same with the same intervals or the cost. We also expect a lot of accessories to be available with the Hilux for further personalization. Stay tuned for more on the India spec Hilux.
