Our obsession with SUVs is only increasing and that is due to the high driving position that it gives along with the fact that it enables one to be less vary of the road conditions that plague our cities. However we also like our SUVs to be feature packed and that is why we listed 5 new SUVs coming soon which are loaded with technology and features. Do note we have included launches which have been confirmed including model names and probable timelines.

Hyundai Alcazar

The Creta recipe is too tempting to be left ignored and Hyundai has taken that plus given it a lot more "masala". Enter the Alcazar and Hyundai has not simply stretched the Creta as instead it went ahead to give its own identity. There are new engines on offer which are not there on a Creta including a larger 2.0 petrol. The other highlight is the space on the second and third row while the second row passengers with the captain seat lay-out get more gadgets like wireless charging, central arm-rest plus cupholders. You have to add in all the features which the Creta has on top of that too including a panoramic sunroof plus more! We expect Hyundai to launch it next month at a slight premium than the Creta.

Mercedes-Benz GLA

Compact luxury SUVs are the new norm and the GLA in its new avatar packs quite a punch. It is an all new model plus unlike the last gen, is bigger, better and loaded with technology. There is a lot more space on offer now while the interiors seem to be belonging to the class above in terms of design plus execution. It gets the same twin screen set-up as more expensive Mercs and premium features like ambient lighting, twin sunroofs, connected tech and more. We expect a diesel and a petrol engine to be offered while a hotter AMG version will also be there to satiate performance enthusiasts. Expect a launch in the coming days.

Volkswagen Taigun

The Germans are coming in full swing and the Taigun is its most lethal weapon. We have been waiting for this SUV for, what seems like, ages now and finally this festive season we will get this much awaited compact SUV. This is just above 4m in size and is aimed at the most lucrative end of the SUV space. What is different though is that the Taigun has been developed with our tastes in mind along with a typical VW flavour. The styling is sporty, especially the GT line model while the interior changes the notion of traditional colours. Also only expect only turbo petrols but with an option of a DSG and manual plus technology along with enough space for five passengers. It is perhaps the SUV for those who want a grown up Polo GT TSI.

Skoda Kushaq

There is more to the Kushaq than its interesting name and it would be the most important product by them till date. No doubt Skoda is known for its sedans but the Kushaq will unlock a bigger market in terms of volumes. The design is typical Skoda and we mean that in a good way while the cabin is also interesting with the unique steering wheel shape to the dashboard. It will be petrol only but will pack in two turbocharged units while the entry level model will have a manual transmission. With the amount of local content, the Kushaq will also be expected to be aggressively priced (just like the Taigun). The SUV segment at the compact level will surely be an interesting place with these new SUVs.

Mahindra XUV700

No, we are not bad at Math but the XUV700 is indeed the new SUV (hence the step up from the XUV500 name) that we have all been waiting for from Mahindra. It is codenamed W601 and will be based on an all new platform plus put Mahindra at a new level in terms of technology, luxury and features. The XUV700 as its name denotes would be a huge change and the new platform will enable more technology to be grafted in. Hence expect advanced driver assistance features, a massive touch-screen , digital cockpit and more. It will also get a new set of engines including a new 2.0 turbo petrol, first seen on the new Thar. It will also have 4wd, manual and automatic versions.
