The Punch is the next big launch from Tata Motors and slowly we have getting to know more and more regarding this new micro SUV. To recap the Punch would be slotted below the Nexon and would be the smallest SUV by Tata Motors. In size terms expect it to be slotted alongside the Magnite.
However, the Punch would be well equipped including getting multiple modes for terrain like in the Harrier. These are not exactly meant for serious off-road but they will help on bad roads with altered throttle response. Alongside that, there would be drive modes including eco and sport. In terms of engines on offer, initially, we will get only one option and that is a 1.2l petrol with a 5-speed manual. The same engine does duty on the Altroz and the Tiago while the addition of drive modes will add to the driving experience. The Altroz only gets an Eco mode in its 1.2l petrol as a reference.
There would be no diesel on offer but later we can see the same turbo petrol that recently the Altroz also got. Also later we might get the AMT automatic version of the same. Pricing is crucial while we think it will start from Rs 5 lakh given its size plus product positioning. With a planned launch around the end of the year, the Punch could be an interesting alternative to the likes of a conventional hatchback. Hyundai also had its micro SUV called Casper being revealed a few days back and that would signal the further expansion of the SUV space. Stay tuned for more on the Punch as we will bring you more details closer to its launch.
