Tata Motors has launched its Punch micro SUV in India with a starting price of Rs 5.49 lakh. The top-end Punch is Rs 8.49 lakh minus the customization pack while AMT is on offer for Rs 60,000 extra. The Punch is the smallest SUV and fills in the space below the Nexon. The Punch has also received a 5-star GNCAP rating which boosts its safety credentials too.

As we have said before the Punch comes with a single petrol engine- a 1.2l unit with 86hp and 113Nm while there are AMT/manual gearbox options to choose from. Tata Motors have also revealed the efficiency figures being 18.97 kmpl for the MT and 18.82 kmpl for the AMT. The trims available are called Pure, Adventure, Accomplished and Creative while 7 colours are on offer with customization packs with dual-tone ones. Also with the customization packs, even the base variant has the option of getting more features.

Top-end versions feature equipment like dual airbags, auto headlamps, steering controls, reverse parking camera, tyre puncture repair kit, cooled glovebox, rear armrest, climate control, 7inch touchscreen with smartphone connectivity, a part digital instrument cluster plus optional being connected car technology IRA. We recently drove the Punch and it did impress us with its 190mm ground clearance and surprising off-road ability (for a non 4x4). The styling is based on the Harrier especially the split headlamp/DRL design touch which adds to the looks for sure. The Punch will compete with the likes of the Nissan Magnite, Renault Kiger and the other micro SUVs.
