Two of Tata Motors EVs have scored a 5 star Bharat NCAP crash test rating. Both the Nexon EV and the recently launched Punch EV have scored top marks being the first EVs to be tested by BNCAP. The Punch EV has scored 31.46 points out of 32 for adult occupancy and 45 out of 49 points for Child occupancy crash tests.
The Punch EV then is the highest rated car by BNCAP with more scores than the other Tata Motors cars including the Nexon EV. The smallest electric Tata SUV gets the new acti.ev architecture and 6 airbags as standard amongst other features like three point seat belts, ESC and Isofix.
Speaking of the Nexon EV, it also has scored a 5 star but gets slightly lower scores than the Punch EV. The Nexon EV scored 29.86 points out of 32 for adult occupancy and 23.95 points for child occupant protection.
Recently the Bharat NCAP took over Global NCAP while being based on its latest protocols. Hence, for a car to score 3 stars it must have ESC.
The Punch EV has been the first Tata EV to debut a new architecture which will also underpin its future models along with having features like a frunk. The Punch EV comes with two battery packs including 25kWh and 35kWh battery pack with 315/421km range. The Nexon EV also comes with long range and medium range versions.
While these two EVs are the first cars to be tested by BNCAP there are more to come in the future with other brands also sending their cars for these tests.
