Asli Range Kitna Hain? Tata Nexon EV Max Tested

New Delhi: There is no doubt that Tata Motors took a big risk and that has paid off very well with a majority market share in the EV space. A lot of the credit for that happens to be the Nexon EV which is still its best seller and the one that everyone is going for. Of course, now there is the Tigor and Tiago EV but the Nexon with its positioning, price and of course being an SUV happens to be the best 'value EV'. With new rivals coming in, Tata Motors had expanded the Nexon EV range with the EV Max.

There is a larger battery pack that instantly moves up the claimed range to 437km while getting four regeneration levels too. The 40.5kWh battery pack is the main talking point so in the real world, the range must be way improved now? We had the car for a few days and used it in stop-gap traffic along with also going on highways. After all, the Nexon EV Max is a premium EV that must work under all conditions.

Our driving pattern was mostly in the eco mode in the city because the car feels so smooth, you don't feel that it is underpowered. Sport is something that we used for fun during acceleration runs as eco or the standard mode is more than enough. Plus if you switch to any other mode, the range drops, and our motto was to squeeze out as much as possible. With Sport mode, you get access to the full 143bhp, and believe us that it is very quick and fun but for most in-city driving conditions, eco it is.

The claimed range will never be matched but we tried our best and got a near 275km figure which is very impressive and much better than the standard Nexon EV (Now Prime). The Max bit in the name does make sense with a more crucial range along with regenerative braking coming into handy. The range is due to other factors too and a lot depends on the conditions but in our case the regen level was middle and we used eco mode.

Using Sport mode livens up the acceleration but drops the range a lot and is best advised for quick overtaking or when you need that acceleration else, eco served the best purpose. Recently, an update has unlocked even more range with the Max and increased to 450plus which is again good news and will see an uptick with the real-world figures too.
