Currently, the much talked about big 5/7-seater SUV space has a lot of competition which recently saw the new Hector come in. Along with the new MG Hector, there is also the Mahindra XUV700 of course which comes with ADAS along with the MG. However, at the Auto Expo, Tata Motors showed a Harrier and Safari with ADAS and a larger touchscreen. Now, bookings are open for the updated Harrier which has ADAS.


The list of changes includes ADAS, a new digital instrument cluster and a new infotainment system. There is also the addition of a 360-degree view camera. As far as ADAS is concerned the new Harrier gets high beam assist, autonomous emergency braking, lane change alert, blind spot detection and more. The current touchscreen is also changed with a larger 10.25-inch unit too. Other notable highlights include wireless smartphone connectivity and a powered driver’s seat with a welcome feature. These are crucial changes in taking the competition head-on in terms of having much-needed features in the premium SUV space.




The Harrier continues to have the current 2.0l diesel engine which gets manual as well as an automatic gearbox along with drive modes. The engine is also RDE compliant.


In terms of rivals, both the Mahindra XUV700 and the MG Hector come with ADAS features too. The XUV700 has dual 10.25-inch screens while also coming with features such as a panoramic sunroof, AdrenoX infotainment system, wireless smartphone connectivity, dual-zone climate control and more. It also gets a powered driver's seat with a welcome feature. In terms of ADAS features, the XUV700 gets forward collision warning, auto emergency braking, adaptive cruise, smart pilot assist, driver drowsiness detection plus more. There are also customisable voice alerts too.




The Hector with the update gets the biggest touch screen with a 14-inch unit while getting features like a panoramic sunroof, dual power seats, digital key and an electronic parking brake too. Like the other two SUVs, there are ADAS features like rear cross-traffic alert, forward collision warning, lane departure, lane keep assist and more.


The XUV700 meanwhile gets a 2.0l turbo petrol with 200bhp along with automatic plus manual while there is a 2.2l diesel with two states of tune including 185bhp. The diesel gets AWD with the automatic along with drive modes. The Hector comes with a 1.5l turbo petrol which comes with CVT and manual while getting a power output of 143 bhp. There is a 2.0l diesel with 170 bhp.




The XUV700 price range varies from Rs 13.4 lakh to Rs 25.4 lakh. The Hector in its new avatar is priced between Rs 14.7 lakh to Rs 21.7 lakh for the top-end version. For now, these updates on the Harrier and Safari are available with the Red Dark edition which is Rs 21.7 lakh for the Harrier starting and Rs 22.6 lakh for the Safari starting.
