In this article let us take a look at the sales performance of the recently launched coupe SUVs, the Tata Curvv, and the Citroen Basalt. Both are coupe SUVs and have established a new segment within the popular compact SUV space. Both were also launched within days of each other.
The new Basalt sold 579 units in August 2024 and that is a decent number for the Citroen brand while it is expected that it will increase its sales tally in the coming days. The Basalt was launched with a price-tag of Rs 7.99 lakh for the entry level model and the Turbo is priced from Rs 11.4 lakh onwards.
The Basalt Turbo also comes with a 6-speed torque converter automatic gearbox while the entry level model is only available with a manual gearbox only. The Curvv from Tata Motors is also a compact SUV which is placed above the Nexon. The coupe SUV has gotten off to a good start with respectable sales of 3455 units. The Curvv was first introduced as an EV with a starting price of Rs 17.49 lakh.
The Curvv EV comes with two battery pack options- 45Wh and 55kWh. Recently the carmaker also launched the ICE version of the Curvv in India with a starting price of Rs 9.99 lakh with two turbo petrol engine options including the new direct-injection turbo-petrol engine. The Curvv also comes with a diesel engine.
Over the months to come, we will see the sales of the two coupe SUVs and how well they are accepted in the Indian market. Currently both of these SUVs are priced quite well in terms of others and that is a key element but in the long run, the coupe SUV style would be something new for buyers and the sales figures will show how they have fared.
