Big luxury sedans are back in the limelight with Skoda bringing back its Superb luxury sedan in India but also with a hefty price-tag of Rs 54 lakh. The Camry hybrid, its only competitor comes in at a price of Rs 46 lakh. Both are full-size luxury sedans with a length of more than 4.8 m, which means there is plenty of space at the back.
For Skoda, this is the entry of the second-gen car and not the latest one sold overseas. That said, the Superb has a European look with a sharply cut design while the Camry Hybrid has a more aggressive face although both have a lot of presence overall owing to their size. Inside, there is plenty of space and comfort along with gadgets. The Camry hybrid has a simpler cabin but has loads of features including cooled seats, while even the rear passengers have their own control panel for adjusting the seats, separate climate control and you can move the front passenger seat too electrically.
The Superb also has a lot of space while there is more tech here, too. In terms of features, the Superb comes with an 11-speaker, 1-subwoofer, 610W Canton Sound System vs the JBL unit on the Camry plus features like Tri-zone Climate Control with the Air Care function and an LED interior light pack, 12-way adjustable electric seats with the driver’s seat getting a massage and memory function, 360-degree camera with ADAS, 9 airbags and more.
The bigger difference lies in the powertrain with the Camry Hybrid having a 2.5l petrol engine along with a motor which brings in a combined output of 218bhp. Being a strong hybrid, it has a full EV mode and it will give a mileage of 16-17 kmpl too. The Superb on the other hand has a 2.0 TFSI turbo petrol which develops 190PS and 320Nm.
While the Superb has a 7-speed DSG with Dynamic Chassis Control, the Camry Hybrid has an eCVT automatic. Skoda will only bring 100 units of the Superb in India and the CBU route being taken to bring it back also means that it is much more expensive than the Camry too. That said, these two are the only full-sized sedans available at this price. The Superb then is for self-driven owners and occasionally being seated at the back while the Camry hybrid is for pure comfort along with the refinement of the hybrid powertrain.
