These days we hardly get anything other than SUVs but a new sedan is indeed a rare thing however Skoda is all set to bring its Slavia sedan to India. It will be a premium sedan positioned above the Rapid along with being based on the newer MQB A0IN platform. We also expect the Slavia to be much longer than the Rapid along with having a long wheelbase which would give it an advantage in terms of rear-seat legroom. Normally sedans are more chauffeur-driven hence the rear seat space is of bigger importance than in an SUV.
In terms of its exterior looks, the Slavia will take inspiration from the Kushaq in terms of the grille and the headlamp while we also expect similar details on the inside with the Skoda trademark two-spoke steering design. Being longer than the Rapid will give the Slavia a premium stance along with matching the Honda City, its biggest rival, in terms of road presence. In terms of features, we expect a big features list with connected car technology, a large touchscreen similar to the Kushaq, ventilated seats, auto headlamps, digital dials along with touch climate controls also seen on the Kushaq.
We expect the Slavia to be petrol only with a line-up of turbocharged units expectedly with a 1.0 TSI as the range starter and the 1.5 TSI being positioned at the top of the range. We expect the 1.5 TSI to have the highest power output in its class plus a DSG automatic gearbox while the 1.0 TSI will get a torque converter automatic. The launch would take place soon while deliveries could be starting next year. Expect prices to be higher than the current Rapid of course while it would take a more premium positioning.
