The Magnite has been a steady performer for Nissan India over the past few years but it now wants to further expand its market with the arrival of a more affordable automatic variant. This means that the Magnite now offers an AMT automatic alongside the CVT which has been here with the turbo petrol. The AMT comes with the 1.0l petrol where earlier you only had a manual gearbox. Nissan has also added a new blue/black combo for the exterior despite being around for a while, the Magnite remains a good-looking SUV. Let us talk about the driving experience.

The Magnite 1.0 isn't about performance as its 72bhp and 96Nm torque will tell you but with the AMT, as a city SUV, you would not be wanting. It does not feel underpowered in the city or crawling at low speeds. When driven sedately, the Magnite AMT offers good performance and the AMT is pretty smooth as well. Compared to the manual, the AMT is actually better since you do not have to work the gearbox yourself. The light steering and the compact dimensions further make it an easy car to drive.

Hence, as a city-based SUV, the Magnite AMT clearly works very well with the AMT being the highlight here. Out on the highway, power tapers down though and the AMT gearbox also has the 'distinctive' pause between the shifts too. Overtakes aren't easy and if you want performance, you are better off with the turbo. In terms of fuel efficiency, the AMT is also better than the manual and it is no surprise here as again you do not need to work the manual gearbox here.

The Magnite AMT works as an affordable automatic SUV and its looks plus features list which is quite generous including a 360-degree camera is also a plus point. As a primarily city-based SUV, the Magnite AMT is a more appealing alternative to hatchbacks and we also expect it to undercut rivals which means the AMT is now the VFM purchase within the Magnite range.

What we like- Smooth AMT at low speeds, feature list, looks, value for money

What we do not like- Lacks performance, AMT is slow at high speeds
