The new Swift will enter India's automobile market very soon. But its mild hybrid iteration, which offers more efficiency, is already making the Japanese market buzz.
The new Swift gets more features in terms of comfort and tech. Measuring 3,860 mm, it is slightly longer than its predecessor, while the width has been brought down to 1,695 mm. The ground clearance has been reduced to 120 mm, but the wheelbase remains the same at 2450 mm. However, these specifications are for the global model only and the India specs could differ, especially the ground clearance. The turning radius has also been retained at 4.8 m.
The mild hybrid version has an efficiency of 28.9 Kmpl. Under the hood, the new Maruti Suzuki packs the new 82PS naturally aspirated Z12E type three-cylinder engine that doles out a torque of 108 Nm. A DC motor and a lithium-ion battery bring in 3 Bhp and 60Nm torque.
The newly developed Z12E type 1.2L 3-cylinder engine has faster combustion and higher compression ratios that offer more torque at low speeds. The 5-speed manual transmission has also been improved and the gear has been tuned for efficiency. The standard petrol variant will deliver close to 24 kmpl mileage, though.
The new Maruti Suzuki offers a boot space of 265 L. In terms of features, the new Swift gets tilt and telescopic steering, automatic climate control, a 9-inch screen, powered mirrors, connected car tech, and more. The Japan spec model adds in ADAS and an electronic handbrake too.
The signature colours on offer are the Frontier Blue Pearl Metallic and the Burning Red Pearl Metallic while again these are from the Japan spec model but we can expect the Striking Blue shade to come to India along with the traditional Swift colours. The new Swift looks sportier but more aggressive and will boast more tech while maintaining its key attributes. Sales of the new Swift would be via the Maruti Suzuki Arena outlets.
