With a new joint venture MG Motor and JSW have shared plans for an aggressive product launch strategy which will see a new product launch every few months. While exact products were not shared, there were three new cars from the global MG lineup, and JSG Group MD, Sajjan Jindal said that the focus will be on EVs while they will also launch PHEVs to cater to those customers who want to remove range anxiety.
Sajjan Jindal, the Managing Director of JSG Group, emphasised a strong emphasis on electric vehicles (EVs), with plans to introduce plug-in hybrid electric vehicles (PHEVs) as well, targeting customers seeking to alleviate range anxiety.
The cars which have been showcased include the all-electric MG Cyberster which is their first EV sports car and had a range of more than 500km. The design is unique and has the trademark supercar-like doors with a low-slung design.
The other new car showed was the MG 4 EV which is a born electric crossover and had a range of more than 500km. This is a premium product and slots in above the MG ZS if launched in India, and also has the same sharp design language as seen on the Cyberster. The interiors come across as tech-laden and spacious too. If launched this would be a halo product for MG and expand its reach in the premium EV space.
Also on display was the MG 5 station wagon which as we have stated before also comes in a premium sedan form which could be the first sedan launched by MG in India. The car on display meanwhile is the all-electric version and is the station wagon or estate version. It measures more than 4.6 m and has two battery packs with a range of nearly 400 km. Since estate cars have not been successful in India, this car has been brought here for showcase and will not be launched here.
