MG Introduces BAAS Battery Rental For Comet And ZS: Is It Worth The Investment?

MG has introduced its 'Battery-as-a-Service' (BaaS) Programme for Comet EV and ZS EV, which was recently launched for the Windsor. This means the Comet comes with a starting price of Rs 4.99 Lakh + battery rental of Rs 2.5/km.

The ZS meanwhile has a starting price of Rs 13.99 Lakh and a battery rental at Rs 4.5/km. MG has also added 60 per cent buyback value after three years of ownership for the Comet and ZS as well. Just like the Windsor, the BAAS programme comes with four financiers, including Bajaj Finserv, Hero Fincorp, Vidyut, and Ecofy Autovert.

There are various rental package plans on offer with a minimum km limit or one with not any minimum km limit where you pay only Rs 3.5 per km but with a security deposit. To keep a track of the usage, MG has installed telematics in the cars now with the Comet and the ZS also coming with this along with the Windsor.

This also does not include the battery charging cost and it is a rental cost. While you can also avail a buyback, an outright buy option is also there for these cars. As earlier it was explained to us, if the buyer stops paying rental, the car would be repossessed and the amount paid for the vehicle would be returned after adding depreciation.

Here, the Comet and the ZS have a cheaper outright cost without the battery which you can pay per km. This move is to make EVs accessible and is for those who drive less for mostly low usage for a period of three years. This scheme was earlier introduced on the Windsor EV.
