It is the longest running badge in India because Mercedes-Benz started its innings way back in 1994 with the W124 E-Class and now the sixth generation model comes to India. It is arguably one of the most important ones since it has been their best seller and one of the most popular luxury cars in general.

The previous generation model was an instant hit with Mercedes-Benz taking the decision to get a long wheelbase version to India. Now, Mercedes-Benz have made it a bit better and added a lot more technology. Looks wise, it is even longer and looks nearly as big as the S-Class with plenty of presence.

However, there are new details like how there is a new grille with a 3D logo along with the same tri-pointed pattern as on the other new Mercedes cars. Of course, there is more chrome now and there are S-Class like flush door handles too along with new 18-inch wheels. At the back there are new LED tail-lamps where you can distinguish it as the new one.

Get in and there are soft close doors now while the cabin is all new thanks to a screen fest. Yes, there are three screens now with the passenger and the main touchscreen being connected along with a large digital display too. Hence, the passenger is not bored and has enough to be occupied while the main display is typical Mercedes with a large/excellent quality plus now a lot of the controls are placed here including the vents. There are hardly any physical buttons and it is a bit more complicated but the voice control system is your best bet here and works very well.

Of course, there is more AI and personalisation where the car knows your routine or even configuring various factors like switching on heated seats with a certain outside temperature and more. Another talked about element is the selfie camera where you can take zoom meetings when stationary. There are loads of apps too.

Amongst the features we liked the 4d Burmester audio system with exciters or speakers in the seats which makes you feel like you are in a concert. The rear seat toys include a recline function with a chauffeur package, electric sunblinds, comfort headrests with soft cushions, electric seat base extension and rear dual zone AC.

Headroom is decent but the space in terms of the legroom is huge and the seats themselves are comfortable. It is without doubt one of the most comfortable cars for the back seat passenger below a crore for sure. We also like how the quarter glass also has a sunblind and the other details like the ambient lighting. That said, massage seats are curiously missing.

The spare tyre is now placed below the boot floor and that makes the boot space much more and usable. Safety includes 8 airbags including a centre airbag while the Level 2 ADAS can be modified too. There are two four cylinder engines and one six cylinder. We drove the petrol E200 which comes with a 48V mild-hybrid system that gives an additional 23hp and 205Nm while the power on offer is 204bhp. A 9-speed automatic is standard too. You start off in silence and it is impressive how refined this engine is while you can barely hear it at low speeds. It is only when pushed hard that you know it is not electric!

The performance is smooth and linear while acceleration is not very quick but suited to this car. It is about comfort and that it does very well but for the performance rush the E450 is the one we guess! The ground clearance is not an issue at all plus the new comfort suspension is improved now over the earlier E-Class in terms of soaking up the bad roads with only the sharpest of the bumps filtering through. Noise is controlled and the overall NVH is one of the highlights. T

The steering is nice and light while making it easy to drive too. The E200 is Rs 78.5 lakh and the price increase has been minimal looking at the changes. The main highlights here are the looks, comfort and tech which have been increased while now as a package it is even better than before.

What we like: Looks, comfort, quality, features, refinement, value

What we do not like: No seat ventilation and massage, tapered acceleration
