New Delhi: Maruti is bringing back a name from its past with its new compact SUV to be called as Grand Vitara. The Grand Vitara was previously used for its premium 5-seater SUV sold many years back. The badge is now used for its all new compact SUV which would be sold via Nexa showrooms.

Interestingly the Brezza with its new generation model recently dropped its Vitara badge which it seems now was reserved for this new SUV. The Grand Vitara will replace the S-Cross as the flagship Nexa product. Bookings are open for Rs 11,000 and we will get to know its details by the 20th of this month at its global unveiling.

The new SUV has been developed along with the Toyota Hyryder but will have significant changes to make it different looking. However, expect it to be the most feature packed Maruti ever with premium features like a panoramic sunroof, cooled seats, a 360 degree camera and a heads up display plus more.

It will have a full digital display and a 9inch touchscreen with the latest infotainment system shared with the new Baleno and Brezza. Expect 6 airbags and ESC plus more features too.

Another highlight is of course it is a strong hybrid with an EV mode with a 1.5l petrol along with an eCVT gearbox. There would also be a standard 1.5l petrol with AWD along with manual and a 6-speed automatic with paddle shifters. The AWD version is expected to be available with the manual version only. Post its unveiling the market launch would be expected to be in the festive season.
