Maruti has finally entered the compact SUV segment with its Grand Vitara SUV. Like its rivals, Maruti has also launched its compact SUV with numerous configurations plus engine options. Here is how the Grand Vitara stacks up against two of its closest rivals.

In terms of length, the Grand Vitara is the longest while the Seltos is the widest in terms of wheelbase, the Seltos/Creta have a longer wheelbase over the Grand Vitara. Styling-wise, the Grand Vitara tries to move into a separate design direction from the sporty Seltos to the radical Creta.

Creta and Seltos have a longer wheelbase which translates to more space inside while the Grand Vitara is not far away. In terms of boot space, the Grand Vitara comes in at 373 litres while the Seltos and Creta are at 433 litres.

Which SUV Is The Fastest?

The Grand Vitara gets a 102bhp/115bhp mild hybrid/strong hybrid powertrain with a 5-speed manual/6-speed automatic/eCVT on offer. The Creta and Seltos also get a 1.5l entry-level option but with more power at 115ps with a 6-speed manual, iMT and CVT. Both the Creta and the Seltos also get a 1.5l diesel with 11ps with 6-speed auto/manual while there is a 140PS 1.4 turbo with a DCT too. In terms of power, the Seltos/Creta offers more but the Grand Vitara offers electric mode with hybrid.

The Creta has an efficiency of 17-21 kmpl while Seltos also delivers between 16-21 kmpl. The Grand Vitara on the other hand is a lot more efficient between 19-28 kmpl with the hybrid version being the most efficient SUV in India.

All three get a sunroof, connected car tech, wireless charging, smartphone connectivity and more. The Grand Vitara and Creta get a full panoramic sunroof while Seltos gets a standard one. The Creta does get a powered handbrake though while Creta/Seltos have a bigger touchscreen too vs the Grand Vitara. However, the Grand Vitara/Seltos have a proper 360-degree camera while ventilated seat features are shared by all three. The Creta/Seltos has also an air purifier while Seltos has a front parking sensor too. All three get you six airbags and other safety equipment. 


Which Is The Most Affordable SUV?

The Grand Vitara prices start from Rs 10.4 lakh and go to Rs 19.4 lakh for the top-end hybrid. Creta prices also start from Rs 10.4 lakh and go up till 18.2 lakh while being the most affordable in terms of the SUVs here. The Seltos also starts from Rs 10.4 lakh while the top-end is Rs 18.6 lakh.

 

The Grand Vitara with its hybrid tech is more expensive than rivals but brings more efficiency while mid variants are priced at par with the Creta/Seltos.

 

Creta continues its popularity with the diesel engine, space and features while Seltos has aggressive looks as well. It remains to be seen how the segment plays out and how Grand Vitara fits in.
