With the price announcement of the XUV700 yesterday, prospective buyers are now wondering which variant to consider and which is more value for money. Plus there is a lot of confusion regarding which variant to buy or which one has more features. Of course, there is also the luxury pack to consider! Let us help.

What are AX and MX?

These two are the trim levels with the MX being the more affordable variant along with the AX being the better-equipped trim. AX has more variants and more options over the MX since MX only comes in the manual 5-seater form. The AX range begins with the AX3, AX5, AX7, and the AX7 with the luxury pack.

What are the engine options?

There are two engine options: a turbo-petrol 2.0l with 200PS and 380Nm which comes with either an option of a 6-speed manual or a 6-speed torque converter automatic. There is a 2.2l diesel which comes with various power outputs. The lower spec trim MX comes with a 155 PS variant with 360 Nm along with a manual. The AX meanwhile has a 185 PS version with 420 Nm (manual)/ 450 Nm (Automatic). Select diesel variants also come with four drive modes (Zip, Zap, Zoom) and a Custom mode.

Which is the best variant to buy then?

It depends on your budget but Mahindra has made sure all get basic features. The MX comes with an 8-inch touch screen and a smaller instrument cluster while it also gets smart door handles and steering mounted controls, power adjusted ORVM, etc. It gets steel wheels though.

The AX3 adds in dual screens including the bigger digital instrument cluster, wireless smartphone connectivity, connected tech, Amazon Alexa built-in, 6 speaker audio system, and 17inch wheels with wheel covers.

Move to the AX5 and you get extra features like a panoramic sunroof, 17-inch alloys, LED lamps, curtain airbags and cornering lamps.

Finally, the AX7, gets ADAS autonomous features, air purifier, dual-zone climate control, side airbags, 6-way power adjusted driver’s seat with memory, leather steering and gear lever, etc.

We think the AX5 petrol/diesel with both MT and At are good buys in terms of value but of course the fully loaded AX7 still seems the best overall if budget permitting.
