The Scorpio N has scored 5 starts under the new GNCAP crash test rating protocols. This is a stringent set of protocols under the revamped Global NCAP crash tests and the Scorpio N has scored 5 stars under that test. The Mahindra Scorpio-N scored five stars for adult occupant protection and three stars for child occupant protection.
The Mahindra Scorpio-N was tested in its basic variant with basic safety features fitted with two frontal airbags and ABS. Electronic Stability Control (ESC) and side curtain airbags are not standard however curtain airbags are standard in the majority of units produced.
The lack of three-point seatbelts affected the child occupant protection result, limiting it to only three stars. Global NCAP’s updated protocols take into account frontal and side impact protection for all tested models, Electronic Stability Control (ESC), pedestrian protection, and side impact pole protection assessments.
The Scorpio N is the first ladder frame chassis-equipped SUV to get a 5-star rating. Launched in June, the Scorpio N is the third SUV after the XUV700 and XUV300 to get a 5-star rating.
The Mahindra XUV300 became Mahindra’s first SUV to earn a 5-star adult safety rating followed by XUV700 in 2021. Also, Mahindra’s other body-on-frame vehicles include the Thar and Marazzo which have got a 4-star rating in 2020 and 2018.
The Scorpio N comes with diesel and petrol engines while coming in Z2, Z4, Z6, Z8, and Z8L variants while the diesel gets the 4x4 system.
In terms of safety equipment, the Scorpio N has 6 airbags, Driver Drowsiness detection, Electronic Stability Control (ESC), ABS (Anti-lock Braking System) + EBD (Electronic Brake Distribution), Hill Descent Control, Hill Hold Control, Vehicle Dynamics Control (VDC), Roll Over Mitigation (ROM), Ventilated Disc Brakes (Front + Rear) and ISOFIX/ i-SIZE. Mahindra plans to launch its XUV400 EV shortly.
