The Sonet has outsold the Syros in India and in the first months where you see the highest sales of a new car, the Syros managed a bit more than 5k units each. In the dispatches, the Sonet remains the more popular option from Kia while outselling the Syros at more than 7.5k units. However, the Sonet is still way behind other cars like the Maruti Fronx or the Hyundai Venue, Maruti Brezza, Tata Nexon, Mahindra XUV3XO and more.
The reason for the Sonet being more popular than the Syros could be the product design which is polarising in case of the Syros. The Syros design is different with a boxy look while the more conventionally appealing Sonet is pulling more buyers. The Syros is a more premium sub 4m SUV with a focus on practicality and space plus features where it brings in more as compared to other SUVs at this segment but the pricing as well as boxy looks seems to have got buyers divided.
The top-end Syros is indeed a bit pricier at near Rs 18 lakh which is more than many 4mplus offerings but even the mid spec trims are well equipped with premium features. Hence, while well equipped, the Syros will probably be the next best seller after the Seltos and Sonet just as it is doing now while it remains to be seen how well it continues to pull customers.
The Syros comes with a 1.5l diesel and a 1.0l turbo petrol unit with no naturally aspirated option on offer- something which is available on the Sonet. With the Syros, Kia has its second sub4m SUV offering and it will help expand its sales further overall.
