Is The Royal Enfield Super Meteor 650 Better Than The Interceptor 650?

While the Super Meteor would be the new flagship model, it should justify the price over the other 650s notably the Interceptor and Continental GT.

New Delhi: When launched the Royal Enfield Super Meteor 650 will not quite be the affordable RE bike that one expects and will most likely be the most expensive one. The obvious question is whether it is better than its Interceptor sibling. Now only a review and a ride will sort that out, on paper specs will also tell a story.

While the Super Meteor would be the new flagship model, it should justify the price over the other 650s notably the Interceptor and Continental GT.

With the Super Meteor 650 shown in production spec avatar in India, the bike is being billed as a highway cruiser with emphasis on being a premium motorcycle. There are two variants- the Super Meteor 650 and Super Meteor 650 Tourer. The Super Meteor 650 variant will be available in five colourways - Astral Black, Astral Blue, Astral Green, Interstellar Grey and Interstellar Green. The Super Meteor 650 Tourer will be available in two colourways - Celestial Red and Celestial Blue.

The heart of the matter is the same with the 648cc twin platform with the power being slightly lower at 46.2 bhp but a closer look reveals that the newest RE 650 has a lot of new additions. It is after all the first Royal Enfield to have a full LED light and a tripper navigation pod as standard. There is a new chassis, new frame and it has a Showa USD front fork. A big difference over the other 650s is the seat height and the relaxed riding style.

Some disadvantages of the Super Meteor 650 vs the Interceptor is the added weight and the low ground clearance of 135mm which hampers practicality even though it does look very good.

We do expect the riding experience to be slightly different with the torque delivery being tweaked a bit when compared to other 650 Royal Enfields.

The message is clear that the Super Meteor 650 is a premium motorcycle with more features with alloy wheels, tubeless tyres to more standard equipment too and it is more cruiser-like for those who want that kind of motorcycle. The Interceptor happens to be the more practical option looking at its specs and price with the Super Meteor 650 expected to be much more pricier. The newest RE Super Meteor 650 is a true blue cruiser while the Interceptor is for the younger and more everyday riding scenario buyer.
