Mahindra does not sell a sedan or a hatchback but instead only sells SUVs while India's love affair with SUVs means that Mahindra is seeing a massive increase in sales. For October 2024, Mahindra sold 54504 SUVs and that is a massive 25 per cent growth. The 10-25 lakh segment has seen a big jump in terms of sales and that's where Mahindra has a lot of products including the XUV700, Scorpio N and the newly launched Thar Roxx.
The Roxx in fact now has a waiting period which stretches into 2026 for fresh bookings. It is the Roxx which has steered this carmaker to highest sales and expanded the Thar range. The Roxx is a 5-door Thar and brings in a new set of buyers for the brand where the 3-door had its limitations. It is the SUV segment which has propelled India to being the third largest market and it is not surprising for the fact that more than 50 per cent of the total PV sales are SUVs.
Another crucial element has been the fact that the XUV 3XO has fared much better than the XUV300 which gives Mahindra a much better performance in the sub 4m SUV segment. The Scorpio remains the best seller for the brand followed by products like the XUV700, XUV 3XO and the Thar while the Bolero also finds itself in the top 20 in terms of overall sales. Going forward, the carmaker will launch more electric SUVs including at the premium end with its new range of born electric products. This year the carmaker has had the XUV 3XO and the Thar Roxx already while more new cars are coming in.
