New Delhi: Hyundai has teased the Stargazer MPV for the global reveal and it is its new premium MPV for our markets. The Stargazer would be Hyundai's rival to the premium MPVs like the Kia Carens and also to some extent the Maruti Ertiga.

Unlike the Carens, the Stargazer MPV has a more MV-like cab-forward design and maximises space for interior occupants. The styling is very futuristic with a full-length LED DRLs across the front and even the rear has connecting LED tail-lamps.

It is a smaller version of the other premium MPV, the Staria. The Stargazer is quite big at a length of 4.5m in length. The MPV would be available in six and seven-seater form with the second row being captain seats in the 6-seater version.

The Stargazer shares its platform with the Kia Carens and the engine choices would also be 1.5 litre petrol and diesel. There would be torque converter and DCT dual-clutch automatics on offer too.

While Indonesia will get this premium MPV first, India will also most likely get the Stargazer as a rival to the Carens and the Ertiga. Demand for spacious MPVs has increased off late and Hyundai would be wanting a piece of the action too as there is clearly a big gap below the Toyota Innova Crysta and that is currently filled by both the Ertiga/XL6 and the Carens.

It would be interesting how Hyundai positions it since it has a three-row SUV already in the form of the Alcazar and the Stargazer would most likely be positioned as a more affordable MPV and aimed at the XL6. Currently, Hyundai has launched the Venue and will launch the Tucson soon with plans to launch more cars.
