The upcoming Exter micro-SUV from Hyundai would be the first sub-4 metre SUV to get 6 airbags as standard. The Exter will get Driver, Passenger, Curtain & Side airbags from all trims. Alongside that, the Exter will get 26 safety features including some as optional on E and S entry-level trims. These include ESC (Electronic Stability Control), VSM (Vehicle Stability Management), HAC (Hill Assist Control), 3-Point Seat Belt & seatbelt reminder (all seats), ABS with EBD, and Burglar Alarm.

Other than that, the Exter gets Dashcam with a dual camera, TPMS (Highline), ISOFIX, Headlamp Escort function, Rear Parking Camera etc. The dashcam feature is a safety feature too and one that is handy while the Venue N Line also has this feature currently on offer. The Exter will get a 1.2l petrol engine with a CNG option while it will get the AMT option plus a 5-speed manual of course. The CNG version will be available with lesser trims. There would be no diesel engine on offer or turbo petrol, unlike the Venue.

Coming with 6 airbags as standard is a huge plus for the Exter and normally this segment does not see this due to cost reasons and some even higher segment SUVs do not come with this feature. The Exter will come soon with a market launch planned for August. The Exter will be placed below the Venue and would be the entry-level SUV while Hyundai has confirmed that it will get a rear camera plus more features.

In terms of rivals, the Exter will compete with the Tata Punch amongst others while being a crucial addition to the SUV portfolio for Hyundai along with the Venue and Creta in the lucrative sub Rs 15 lakh SUV space.
