Citroen, a French car-maker is all set to make its India debut with its first product called the C5 Aircross. The Aircross is a premium SUV designed to take on the likes of the Jeep Compass and the Hyundai Tucson plus to some extent the Volkswagen Tiguan AllSpace. The C5 Aircross measures 4500mm in length and 1969mm in width with a ground clearance of 230mm. The India spec version is unchanged with the model sold overseas in many markets while the stand out point would be the styling for Citroen. The India spec C5 Aircross would get 7 colour options including 3 dual-tone ones while 18-inch wheels would be standard.
The variant line-up will have two trims only called as Feel and Shine while both are highly equipped with standard features like an 8-inch touch-screen, 12.3inch TFT digital display, powered driver's seat, dual-zone climate control, electronic parking brake, rear camera, front and rear parking sensors, puddle lamps, 6 airbags, hands-free parking etc. The top-end Shine gets a panoramic sunroof as additional feature along with full LED headlamps plus a hands-free tailgate opening. Citroen is only offering a diesel engine which is a 2.0l unit which makes 177hp and 400Nm while also standard is an 8-speed automatic plus it has drive modes though no all-wheel drive is being offered. The claimed mileage is 18.6kmpl (with a start/stop system) while the company is claiming its hydraulic suspension system to be an USP with the ability to absorb road imperfections and work well in our road conditions. The other highlight is the practicality with the three adjustable rear seats which can be individually adjusted and folded to liberate extra space.
The launch would be in March while prices would be expected to be in the premium side being around Rs 30 lakh for the top-end (ex-showroom) since it is a CKD with many components such as the engine being imported. At first the car would be retailed via unique dealerships called as La Maison dealerships which would be present in 10 locations plus areas where there would no Citroen showrooms would have a mobile showroom set-up for sales. The brand aims to launch more products in the coming years and also expand its presence across more cities to do so and it is first keen to establish itself with the C5 Aircross. Expect a detailed review of the Citroen C5 Aircross by the 15th of this month
