Delhi: Car sales have increased in Delhi even after the second wave of Covid-19 had hit the capital city in 2021. According to a media report, personal car sales in Delhi registered a 19.1 percent increase in 2021 as compared to 2020. Also, there was a total increase of 8.1 percent in car registrations as compared to 2020. At the same time, sales of commercial cars also increased by 53.4 percent compared to 2020.


A total of 4,58,424 cars were registered in Delhi between January 1, 2021, and December 31, 2021. In 2020, there were 4,24,294 registrations, although there has been a significant decline compared to 2019. A total of 6,41,889 cars were registered in 2019. There was some slow down in the sale of cars due to the second wave of Corona in the months of April-May, but by November, the festival of Diwali shrank the gap in sales. On the other hand, while car sales recorded an increase, bike sales showed a continuous decline for the second year.


Sales of cars increased by nearly 27% in the country


Not just in Delhi, but on a national level too, a look at the number of car sales in 2021 indicates an increasing trend. Sales of passenger car sales have jumped nearly 27 percent. In 2021, 30 lakh cars were sold. Last year saw a long waiting period for nearly 7 lakh cars, but car companies sold about 30.82 lakh cars. In 2020, this number was only 24.33 lakh units.
