In the full size luxury sedan world, road presence is key and along with that also features plus comfort too. BMW has just launched its new 5 Series and it now enters this segment with a stronger set of weapons as this is the first time that a 5 Series comes in long wheelbase form and it is squarely aimed at the Mercedes-Benz E-Class, the current best seller. Hence, we do a quick dimensions comparison and also bring in the Lexus ES300h in the mix too.


The BMW 5 Series LWB has a length of 5165 mm while the Mercedes-Benz E-Class has a length of 5075 mm plus do note that both come in long wheelbase forms. The Lexus ES comes in a standard wheelbase form and has a length of 4975 mm. In terms of width, the 5 Series is at 1900 mm vs the E-Class at 1860 mm. The Lexus ES300h comes in at 1865 mm. Wheelbase is also crucial with the 5 Series having a long wheelbase of 3,105 mm vs the E-Class at 3079 mm. The ES300h wheelbase is at 2870 mm.


The 5 Series LWB in terms of features has a 14.9-inch touchscreen and a 12.3-inch digital cluster while the E-Class comes with two 12.3-inch screens. The Lexus also has a 12.3-inch touchscreen. In terms of luxury features, the new 5 Series LWB gets an 18 speaker audio system from Bowers & Wilkins, powered and ventilated seats, four zone climate control, full length glass roof, rear wireless charging, ADAS and more.


The E-Class also has twin sunroofs, rear touchscreen on armrest, recline rear seats, Burmester audio system, three zone climate control soft close doors, air suspension and more. The Lexus has a 17 speaker Mark Levinson audio system, 3-zone climate control, head-up display, power recline rear seats and more.


The Lexus is the only here with a full hybrid engine with a 2.5l petrol paired with 88kw electric motor. The BMW 5 Series LWB only comes with a 2.0l turbo petrol with a mild hybrid system. The E-Class on the other hand has two diesel engines and one turbo petrol.


The 5 Series LWB is priced at Rs 72.9 lakh while the E-Class starts at Rs 76.05 lakh to Rs 89.15 lakh. The Lexus is the most affordable at 63.10 lakh to Rs 69.70 lakh.


The BMW offers the biggest size and huge rear seat space plus being great value too while the Lexus is the one with the most efficiency plus the most aggressively priced but not being LWB like others. The Mercedes-Benz offers most rear seat features and the most engine options too.
