The coronavirus pandemic shook up the auto industry. Now the industry has reported an increase in sales. This is an indication of the strong revival of the auto industry. A recent report by the Federation of Automobile Dealers Association of India (FADA) said that the auto industry has picked up pace in the last few months.
According to FADA, passenger vehicle sales rose 62.89 percent. 2,61,744 units were sold in July 2021 as against 1,60,681 units in July 2020. In July, auto companies reported an increase in sales of all categories of vehicles including two-wheelers, three-wheelers, and commercial vehicles.
Increase auto sales as compared to last year
According to data released by FADA, the total sales of different categories of vehicles increased by 34.12 percent to 15,56,777 units in July this year. According to FADA chairman Winkesh Gulati, newly launched cars and compact SUV segment cars are in tremendous demand.
Car sales figures
Last month, Maruti Suzuki sold 1,14,294 vehicles, while Hyundai Motor sold 44,737 units of cars. Tata Motors sold a total of 24,953 vehicles. Mahindra & Mahindra sold 16,326 vehicles and Kia Motors sold 15,995 vehicles in July. The commercial vehicle segment has seen an increase of 165.9 percent. A total of 52,130 commercial vehicles were sold. In July 2020, the commercial vehicle segment recorded sales of 19,602 units.
Sales of two and three-wheelers
In July this year, 11,32,611 two-wheelers were sold across the country. Sales of such vehicles have increased by 27.55 percent this year as compared to last year. A total of 8,87,937 two-wheelers were sold in July 2020. Hero MotoCorp sold the highest number of two-wheelers this year. The company has sold 4,01,904 vehicles this year. Honda Motorcycle and Scooter has sold a total of 2,77,813 vehicles. TVS Motor sold 1,65,487 vehicles. Bajaj Auto sold 1,37,507 units this year. Suzuki Motorcycle India has sold 47,171 vehicles this year. In addition, a total of 27,904 three-wheelers were sold across the country in 2021. The sales in this segment have increased by 83.04 percent as compared to the previous year.
