The eVX is the global EV from Suzuki and will come to India but not now while we expect a possible debut by 2025. This is a born electric SUV and has been developed with Toyota while for India this targets the popular compact SUV space at above 4m. However, not just Maruti Suzuki as Hyundai will also launch its first EV which has been tailor-made for India being based on its ever-popular Creta. The new Creta-based EV would be based on the new Creta coming next year and could have further styling changes to differentiate it from its ICE sibling.
The key to both EVs is localisation where Hyundai will localise the E-GMP platform and Maruti will also localise the eVX with a new electric only platform. If we talk about dimensions, both the EVs would be above 4m at 4300mm in length and have more space when compared to their ICE counterparts. For now, we know that the eVX concept will have a 60kWh battery pack with 500km range and that is a big number as it's more than rivals currently.
As of now, we do not know the powertrain details of the Creta EV but expect a single motor and a large battery pack with also a healthy range figure. The production version of the eVX will evolve though in terms of styling but expect it to be the most radical design yet from Maruti Suzuki. With the Hyundai, we expect a Kona-inspired design with a blanked off grille plus other details on the Creta canvas. Both of these two EVs are some time away but the intent and the plan to bring localised versions means that volume is what is desired and not just presence.
With two of India's largest carmakers, it would be the 2025 Auto Expo where we get to see both getting launched and more options for the EV buyer in this segment.
