There is little doubt that Tata Motors will showcase more EVs at the 2023 Auto Expo with being the current leader in the electric vehicle space. The market share of Tata is huge and it commands a major chunk of the market which it is keen to preserve or expand. It has been steadily adding new products like the Tiago EV and the Tigor while the Punch EV could be another important launch since it would be the most affordable EV SUV in India over the Nexon EV.
The Punch EV is also based on a flexible platform while the styling would be more different over the Punch EV with blue accents all around plus different wheels. The architecture would be the same as the Tiago EV but the battery pack would be bigger with a longer range figure being expected.
We will most likely get to see the Punch EV in its concept avatar while the production version is coming in later in the year. The Punch EV would be the fourth launch from Tata Motors in the EV space and we expect it to have a Rs 2 lakh price increase, possibly over the top-end AMT automatic petrol.
Of course, these are early estimates but the Punch EV could be a volume seller being slightly cheaper than the Nexon EV. The other concept is the Harrier EV which could also be showcased in concept form with a production version coming in later.
This would be a premium EV SUV placed above the Nexon EV and the range could be in the region of 400-500 km like the more premium EVs. The Harrier EV could be an interesting addition since the current Harrier lacks a petrol version while the EV would give it an unique positioning in the SUV space.
