Ganesh Visarjan 2024: On September 7, Ganesh Chaturthi was celebrated across the country with the installation of Lord Ganesha idols. This day marks the beginning of the ten-day Ganesh festival. On Anant Chaturdashi, Lord Ganesha is bid farewell, and the idols are immersed in water. However, depending on beliefs, many people also perform Ganesh Visarjan on the 1.5th, 3rd, 5th, or 7th day.

Ganesh Visarjan Vidhi:
On the day of Ganesh Visarjan, offer Lord Ganesha his favourite items during the pooja, such as Durva grass, Modak, laddus, vermillion, kumkum, rice grains (Akshat), betel leaves, betel nuts, cloves, cardamom, turmeric, coconut, flowers, perfume, and fruits. During the pooja, chant the mantra "Om Shri Vighnrajaya Namah."
At home or in the pandal where Ganpati was installed, perform an Aarti and Havan. Sprinkle Gangajal on a wooden seat, draw a Swastika on it, and place a red cloth over it. Then, place the idol and all the offerings on this seat. With music, drums, singing, dancing, and sprinkling of Gulal, take the idol for Visarjan.
Before immersing the idol in a river or lake, perform an Aarti with camphor, seek forgiveness for any mistakes made knowingly or unknowingly, and express the wish for Lord Ganesha to return next year.
While immersing the idol slowly into the water, chant the mantra "Om Gachha Gachha Sursreshtha, Swasthanae Parameshwar. Yatra Brahmdayo Devaah, Tatra Gachha Hutaashana."
