New Delhi: Former Andhra Pradesh chief minister Chandrababu Naidu, who was arrested in connection with the alleged Skill Development Corporation scam, will be interrogated at the Rajamahendravaram Central Prison, news agency PTI reported on Friday.
Earlier in the day, a local court ruled that the former chief minister and Telegu Desam Party (TDP) chief will be placed under the custody of the CID for two days. He was earlier named an accused in the Skill Development Corporation ‘scam’ case.
According to an earlier report by the PTI, quoting Special Public Prosecutor YN Vivekananda, who was representing the CID, the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) court extended Chandrababu Naidu’s custody by two days - September 23 and 24.
Speaking to reporters, the Special Public Prosecutor said, citing the local court order, “His (Naidu) custody will extend from 9 am to 5 pm on both days (September 23 and 24). He shall be accompanied by an advocate and should not be subjected to harassment and other third-degree methods.”
He added that a CID team will visit the Rajamahendravaram Central Prison, where the former Andhra CM is being lodged currently, to question him in the case.
On both these days, the TDP supremo will be in the custody of the CID from 9am to 5pm.
He will be back with the jail authorities once his custody period with the CID is over.
Meanwhile, the Andhra Pradesh High Court on Friday junked a plea by the TDP chief, seeking quashing of the FIR filed against him.
Amid high drama and protests by party supporters, the former CM was arrested on September 9 for allegedly misappropriating funds from the Skill Development Corporation in 2015. The alleged laundering of funds, according to the CID, resulted in a purported loss of over Rs 300 crore to the state exchequer.
After his arrest, he was remanded in judicial custody for 14 days.
