Hyderabad: Moderate to heavy rains lashed several districts on Tuesday as the southwest monsoon spread across the Andhra Pradesh and Telangana. According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), the low-pressure area would continue to have an average elevation of 4.5 km to 5.8 km above sea level along the northern Indian peninsula at 19 degrees north latitude.


Rayalaseema districts will receive light showers, while the coastal areas of Andhra Pradesh will receive moderate rains on Wednesday, predicted IMD. Moderate to heavy rains are expected in many districts of Telangana.


The Regional Meteorological Department (Amaravati) estimates moderate showers or thundershowers in the northern coastal areas and Yanam for the next two days. Srikakulam, Vijayanagaram, Visakhapatnam districts, and Yanam will receive moderate to heavy rains. Rains will extend to West Godavari, Konaseema and Anakapalle districts. IMD predicts thunderstorms, especially in the northern coastal districts.

The IMD said light showers are likely in the southern coastal and Rayalaseema district for two days. According to AP Weatherman, clouds from Telangana will bring rains to Kurnool and Nandyala districts, while Vijayawada will receive scattered showers.






Jayashankar Bhupalpally, Mulugu, Bhadradri, Kottagudem, Khammam, Suryapeta and Mahabubabad districts are likely to receive scattered showers in the Telangana state on Wednesday. The IMD's Hyderabad office has estimated thundershowers and heavy rains in some districts of Telangana and issued a yellow alert in the wake of rains.
