A student deboarding a train at Duvvada railway station in Visakhapatnam district got stuck between the train and the platform. The train was instantly stopped, and rescue workers saved the female student. Shashikala, who is studying MCA at Vigyan College in Duvvada, got stuck between the railway platform and the train while getting off the Guntur-Rayagada Express.


She was on her way to college and had reached Duvvada from Annavaram. While getting down at the platform, she slipped and got stuck between the platform and the train, with her foot getting twisted and trapped in the track.


The injured student started crying for help. The station authorities immediately swung into action and ordered the train driver not to resume the journey.


The Railway Protection Force (RPF) personnel launched the rescue work. They cut a part of the platform to pull out the student. The operation lasted for one-and-half hours. The injured student was shifted to a hospital.


The incident led to a delay of one-and-half-hour in the departure of the Guntur-Rayagada Express and also affected running of other trains on the route.

Earlier at Odisha's Korai Station two people died while others were injured as a goods train derailed. Both rail lines were blocked and the station building was damaged. The goods train got derailed at Korai Station in the Bhadrak-Kapilas Road Railway Section which is under the Khurda Road Railway Division of East Coast Railway. Both lines are blocked.


When the train derailed, eight wagons dashed onto the platform and the waiting hall, causing the casualties, news agency PTI reported East Coast Railway (ECoR) officials as saying. Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik announced ex gratia of Rs 2 lakhs each to the next of kin of the victims.
