Hyderabad: Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy on Tuesday announced in the state assembly that Sangam Barrage in Nellore will be named after Mekapati Goutham Reddy.


CM Jagan said the work on Sangam Barrage would be completed in six weeks. Jagan assured that the YSRCP government would support the family of Goutham Reddy. CM Jagan on Tuesday introduced a resolution of condolence for the late Minister Mekapati Goutham Reddy in the AP Assembly. Ministers and party leaders mourned the death of Mekapati Goutham Reddy. They expressed profound sympathy to their family.


CM YS Jagan said that Minister Goutham Reddy's death was a huge loss to the party and the state. Jagan Mohan Reddy remembers being a good friend of his since childhood. He said that losing a good friend is painful.

CM Jagan said that Mekapati Rajamohan Reddy Institute of Sciences College in Udayagiri would be renamed as Goutham Reddy College of Agriculture and Horticulture. He said the government would take responsibility and introduce better agricultural courses.


 The CM said that the Udayagiri area would be brought under Phase 1 works and irrigated. He also promised to upgrade the facilities at the Degree College in Udayagiri as part of the day-to-day work.


CM Jagan recalled that on many occasions, Goutham Reddy stood by his side. He said he had carried out his responsibilities efficiently and had played a key role in bringing new companies into the state. Goutham Reddy had worked hard as Industries Minister, he added.


Minister Anil Kumar Yadav said that the late Minister Mekapati Goutham Reddy was a man without controversy. Anil prayed for peace for his soul.


Nagari MLA RK Roja reiterated that Mekapati Goutham Reddy was a non-controversial figure, very soft-spoken in politics. Minister Adimulapu Suresh and Peddireddy Ramachandra Reddy expressed deep sympathy over the death of Gautam Reddy.
