Andhra Pradesh: CM Jagan Holds Review Meeting With Education Dept, Asks To Implement Reforms By Next Academic Year

New Delhi: In a review meeting held on the progress of work in the state education department, Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy said that all the reforms in line with the New Education Policy (NEP) should be implemented by the next academic year.

Addressing the meeting held at the camp office in Amaravati on Thursday, the CM instructed the education department officials to ensure that the teacher-student ratio is maintained at schools and said there are subject-wise teachers.

YS Jagan also said that over 22,000 teachers will get promotions as schools are being set up under the NEP and added that they should be promoted from SGT to School Assistants, and appropriate steps should be taken to improve their capabilities. He further instructed the officials concerned to complete the promotions and transfers, and implement the reforms by June.

The Chief Minister instructed the officials to change two schools into junior colleges in each mandal and said one junior college would be there for co-education and another for girls. He said all the recommendations given by SERT should be implemented.

The CM approved name change of Mandal Resource Center to Mandal Education Officer's Office and entrust the MEO with the drawing powers. He also approved the SERT recommendation of handing over educational activities to the MEO and gave green signal to recruitment of MEP posts.

According to a press release from the CMO, YS Jagan approved to implement SERT recommendations of having real-time data rather than various apps without duplication for online attendance and entering the marks of the students online. He also directed to implement SERT recommendations of not using teachers for non-academic works and headmasters organising a meeting every month. 

The Chief Minister directed the officials to take immediate action on redressal of complaints from schools and also focus on lack of facilities and repair of infrastructure among other issues. He said that focus should be given on maintenance of schools and the facilities related to toilets and drinking water.

The CM directed the officials to start second phase of Nadu Nedu works soon to which the officials said that they would start the second phase from February 15 and complete by September.

The State government has also set up a toll free number 14417 to report any problems related to Jagananna Vidya Kanuka, toilet maintenance, Gorumudda, and maintenance of schools.

YS Jagan further instructed the officials to provide dictionaries to new students and teach them at least one new word and its usage every day and make it a part of the curriculum. He instructed the officials to focus on digital learning for Classes 8, 9 and 10 and see if it can be taught as a subject.

The education department officials detailed the Chief Minister on the six types of schools that were newly classified according to NEP and the staff there.

The officials said it is completely false that schools are being shut down due to NEP. They added that they have been merging the classes and not schools and asserted that there would be no closure of schools.

Education Minister Adimulapu Suresh, Chief Secretary Dr Sameer Sharma, School Education Special Chief Secretary Buditi Rajashekar, Women and Child Welfare Principal Secretary AR Anuradha, and other officials were also present at the meeting.
