Mahadangal: Waqf Law Sparks Political Row in Bihar; Congress and RJD Defend Right to Repeal | ABP NEWS

ABP News Bureau   |  01 Jul 2025 10:14 AM (IST)

As Bihar gears up for elections, the Waqf Act has become a fresh political flashpoint. A large “Waqf Bachao, Samvidhan Bachao” rally in Patna, organized by Muslim groups, drew significant participation from opposition parties. While RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav slammed the BJP for undermining the Constitution and promoting religious agendas, it was Congress spokesperson Pawan Khera who made the strongest statement against the Waqf law. Khera said that just like the Farm Bills, even laws passed in Parliament—like the Waqf Act—can be “thrown in the dustbin” if needed. His remarks triggered sharp criticism from BJP leader Sudhanshu Trivedi, who called it an insult to Babasaheb Ambedkar and the dignity of Parliament. Trivedi asserted that Parliament’s laws should be respected, not mocked. RJD MP Manoj Jha backed Khera’s view, arguing that repealing laws is part of the democratic process and citing the rollback of the Farm Bills as a precedent. He emphasized that opposition to certain laws does not mean disrespect to the Constitution. Meanwhile, RSS and BJP leaders like Dattatreya Hosabale, Jagdeep Dhankhar, and Shivraj Singh Chouhan also criticized the opposition, as the political temperature in Bihar rises ahead of crucial polls.
